Interim & Fractional Leadership

When organisations face transformation, disruption, or capability gaps, waiting six to twelve months for a permanent hire is often not an option.

Our Interim & Fractional Leadership service provides rapid, flexible access to senior data, analytics, and AI leaders who can step in immediately to stabilise, lead, and deliver, without the long-term commitment of a permanent appointment.

This is leadership with accountability, not consultancy on the sidelines.

Is this what your organisation needs?

This approach is particularly effective where a senior data leader has exited unexpectedly, a permanent hire is planned but cannot be made quickly enough, or a transformation programme requires experienced leadership to gain momentum. It is also well-suited to organisations that have capable internal teams but lack senior direction, governance, or executive sponsorship, or where strategic clarity is needed before committing to a long-term structure.

In many cases, interim or fractional leadership not only fills an immediate gap but actively reduces risk by creating stability, pace, and informed decision-making at a critical point in the organisation’s journey.

Our Interim & Fractional Leadership Process

We begin by defining the mandate clearly. This means agreeing on what the leader is accountable for, the outcomes required in the first 90 to 180 days, the scope of authority, and how success will be measured. We also ensure expectations are aligned across executive stakeholders and, where relevant, the board. This clarity allows leaders to arrive with purpose and direction, rather than having to navigate ambiguity.

Once the mandate is set, we move quickly to identify and deploy the right individual. Our network and community consists of senior leaders who have already operated at the required level and are comfortable entering complex, high-pressure environments. They are selected for their ability to assess organisational maturity rapidly, prioritise effectively, and build credibility with senior stakeholders from day one.

Interim leaders typically take full ownership of stabilising and leading data, analytics, or AI functions, driving transformation programmes, and establishing operating models, governance, and delivery cadence. They work as part of the leadership team, accountable for progress and outcomes, not as external consultants observing from the sidelines.

We apply a rigorous, data-informed assessment process using our proprietary competency assessment platform. For each role, we design a tailored, competency-based assessment aligned to our industry-specific Data, Analytics & AI competency framework.

This framework evaluates both technical capability and professional effectiveness, including leadership behaviours, commercial acumen, and communication skills. By consistently assessing candidates against the competencies that directly correlate to success in the role, we are able to determine true suitability with objectivity and precision. This approach sits at the core of our methodology and represents the standard for evidence-led, data-informed hiring.

Where a permanent appointment is planned, we ensure continuity through the transition. Interim or fractional leaders often play a key role in shaping the permanent role specification, supporting knowledge transfer, and setting their successor up for success. This reduces handover risk and preserves momentum during change.
