If you could make one prediction for the future of D&A in 2025, what would it be?
I think we’ll see the inevitable influence of AI in the D&A space. With AI being able to translate natural language into SQL or Python code, the entry barrier will decrease significantly. Business stakeholders will also be able to access data through natural language interfaces, enabling them and their companies to become more data-oriented. AI will further simplify analysts’ work by bringing automation to life and supporting their day-to-day tasks.
What’s a D&A practice or trend you’re excited to explore further in your job?
I am quite excited about advancements in “Talking to Your Data.” With natural language processing and speech-to-text/text-to-speech capabilities, I believe large language models (LLMs) will become our sparring partners in day-to-day discussions about insights derived from data and the actions that follow. While I am still searching for a compelling real-world application of this concept, I’m confident that next year will bring some practical examples to explore.
If you could gift one book or podcast to a fellow D&A leader, what would it be?
The D&A landscape is evolving so rapidly that books often struggle to keep pace. However, some timeless classics remain highly relevant. For the winter holiday season, I would recommend something lighter: Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis. It’s a must-read for all data enthusiasts and sports lovers.
What’s your favourite part of your festive dinner plate?
I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas dinner plates, but once a year, I really enjoy traditional Glühwein at Berlin’s Christmas market, served in a hand-painted souvenir jug 🙂
